Language is everything.
Communicating isn't just about sharing information - it is about connecting with the person you are sharing it with. Most technical professionals have spent very little time, if any, learning about how language works and how it impacts their professional life. If they DO spend time learning these things, it is often in a space that highlights its importance but does not provide the theory or the tactics necessary to help someone apply what they have learned. This is specifically relevant in technical professions, where most high performers have achieved their status by being exemplary at process-oriented thinking. While that type of thinking is extremely valuable, it is not the typical approach that most communications consultants take. Linguistic theory helps to provide detailed steps and iterable processes that anyone can learn and replicate. This “fake it until you make it” approach ensures that even those who are not intuitive communicators are able to succeed and improve in these areas.
This webinar will walk attendees through an introduction to empathetic communication - what it is, why it matters, and how to do it - all through the lens of sociolinguistic theory.
